The objective of this paper is to model eccentric impacts in pile driving. A 1-D finite element model representing the pile is coupled to a 2-D radial discretisation of the surrounding soil. The pile is considered in the model as an Euler-Bernoulli vertical beam. Radial and tangential discretisations of the soil medium are proposed to model the soil reaction based on equilibrium equations in cylindrical coordinates. Both pile and soil vibrations are coupled in the time domain by calculating the lateral soil reaction at each time step. After the validation of the model, a comparison with in-situ real cases is finally presented to show the practical usefulness of the model.
