Detailed characterization of solar shading systems is a complex issue, but is more and more critical due to improved building performance requirements. For most simulation tools the application is limited by the use of Lambertian or simplified scattering models. Bi-directional scattering distributions for those elements could allow considering them into advanced lighting simulations tools. This should lead to a better description of the daylight and energy performance of solar shadings.
